Psalm U

(Out for a walk, I speak)—Howdy, neighbor!
Howdy. Say, did you serve?
(Guessing the sense)—I had a draft number
but the draft was cancelled that year.
Awesome. I never registered, and it turned out
there was a brief gap in requirement
that I hit.
How interesting. (Wondering his mindset,
I continue)—What angered me was my church
not telling me whether it was right or wrong
to fight a war.
Well, you got your Mennonites and Quakers,
and the Congregationalists are so-so,
but when I was living in a small town
there was one chapel and two denominations
that wanted it. One day thugs entered and drove
the pastor out leaving his pregnant wife behind,
who was left untouched, but the chapel
changed hands.
How amusing, neighbor. Have a good day.
You, too.
