Psalm T

And the covenant made by the true God was:
Forever will there be seed on your throne,
O, king David.

And it lasted a long time until Athaliah,
Daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, not of David’s seed,
Was given in marriage

To Jehoram son of David in the sense of seed,
Who died of an awful disease, so his son Ahaziah
Took the throne.

He in turn was hunted down by Jehu,
Under divine commission to eliminate the house of Ahab,
Which he did, nearly.

Athaliah then rose, placing herself on the throne
As Queen after murdering her grandsons,
The remaining seed of David—

Except for the youngest who was hidden
By his aunt the wife of the high priest
And who was raised in secret.

The return of the seed to David’s throne
Ended Athaliah’s rule, herself put to death,
Leaving a gap in the dynasty.

Did this invalidate the covenant?—
Forever except for some years?—
Nobody says so.
