Sarah

It was for what
To say ‘sister’ and not ‘wife’!?
What thinks he?
Fear he will be killed?
Why not rather fear the wrath of God?

Such were my thoughts, but I knew my God.
Obedience to husband was akin to obedience to God.

We walked or rode the beasts.
I contemplated the promises my husband heard—
offspring uncountable—
all families and all nations blessed throughout the earth.

I contemplated his obedience to the voice of God:
Go from your home to the land I will show.

Yes!
I suffered for my obedience,
wrestling between hope and worry
that my husband suffered too,
and as I followed my course
questions recurred:
What the day when the blessing is in sight?
Who the offspring to be known within this day?
Must a sister-wife be evident innocent to misuse?
