What the Cost—What the Gain
Would ‘ultimate responsibility’ assigned to individuals become excuse
For cruelty?—Already are we there?—“The blackguard had it coming.”
“We have every right to go to war.” “Assign the sinner his everlasting hell.”—
We find our vision blurry when looking in the mirror.
Yet could we rise unto the task? Benefit to know ourselves?
Would it bring sorrow to depression, or sorrow to repentance?
What depth of knowledge would be needed to get it right?
Our document of history—grim—is crying for a change.
I ask out of a deep, unyielding passion.
The answer sits reserved in heaven, by wisdom, we presume.
Have I gathered God into council with his Son?
A being not unlike ourselves might want the answer, too.
The answer might have repercussions
A long way down the road.
