Number Twenty-three
Still counting—a promise to pursue?—who gives out first?—the writer or the reader?
Ask I from love—to help the hungry soul who yearns for justice understood—
“The sin of you people is written with an iron stylus—with a diamond point engraved . . .”
“And you let loose, even of your own accord, from your possession given you . . .”
How ‘of our own accord,’ we ask, we simpletons of philosophic mind—
We ask and keep on asking—seek and knock and pester—please don’t hide from our despair—
“For already the God most true has found pleasure in your works . . .”
Thus saith mine studies—scripture and philosophy—
“As a tree produces fruit, so people produce thoughts, words, and actions . . .”
“We know not how gravity works, but it works . . .”
“An animal with the right to make a promise—is it not the problem . . . ?”
“To do or not to do, how do I choose . . . ?”
